Object : SMARTY in Docebo
Hi ,
Now Docebo is an unique LMS\LCMS with 18 languages support but this is not a proof
to say that Docebo is supporting 18 languages without any problem !
"Date & Time" is another issue that couldn`t be aside from languages , I know
that docebo users that don`t use latin languages have many problems with "Date"
issue and usually they ignore any feature that is related with "Date & Time" .
I know that php developers in world have prepared their own country "Date" plugin
that is supported with SMARTY template engine and you can find your favorite
smarty "Date" plugin related to your country standard with a simple googling ;
that is one php file that should be named something like "modifier.your-native-calendar-name_date_format.php"
for example my country calendar name is "Jalali" and smarty plugin name is "modifier.jdate_format.php".
I suggest smarty for docebo to make a revolution in languages support and
its functionality .Of course smarty has more useful functions .Wink

I agreed.

Another powerful function is Smarty Template Engine, which can deliver page faster. It separate the logic (programmer) and presentation layer (graphic designer), make them work as a team.

Hi all!
I'm new to Docebo and managed to sucessfully install Docebo 3.6.0.4 on a test server to try it out, and I've been doing it for a couple of months. I've read the manual and i'm still a bit confused with the logic of it. However it is my experience with other types of CMS's that Smarty would be a versatile way to improve templates and design. So I have to agree with the posts above.
Regards.

Hi all

Since Docebo 4.0 we will not support the CMS part anymore, docebo Will vocus to be only e-LMS (Enterprise Learning Management System), in my hopinion, due to the very simple things to change in template in the LMS versione the template thing is really easy to manage with CSS.

Thanks for your quick reply.

Actually that was something I was afraid of. I didn't have time to install version 4 so I went for a "test drive" on your demo installation. I was actually wondering about what happened to the CMS section of Docebo. Even though I understand your point of view, this might actually make me move on to other possible choices... I do need the CMS on the platforms I'm about to setup, and I'm not sure I'm willing to build on separated packages. I hope you (the team) reconsider the possibility since Docebo seemed ahead of other LMS packages on several points.

Another different subject: being Portuguese, and building web applications mainly in Portuguese, I was wondering why the choice of having "Brazilian Portuguese" and not just Portuguese (with the Portuguese banner), or both  Smile. The one I downloaded from this site, in spite of the obvious amount of work it must have taken and the good will to share it (who ever it was), is full of errors and I doubt that it will be useful even for a Brazilian site. I know the amount of work involved in the translation because I had to do it myself, and took me ages to do it. There are a few items I didn't translate yet, some probably will have to be revised, but it is, for the most part, done. (It became a bit futile this investment just to see that the CMS has been discontinued...).

I wonder if version 4 will need all this work again... Anyway, I'm willing to do it even if I decide not to use it anyway, mainly because I think it is a shame not have a proper translation to Portuguese. Having said that, how can I do it (for version 4) without having it installed and running, if at all possible. Or do I have to install it?

Best regards.

OK, I have to wonder... 3 days without a reply... I'm not exactly sure what that might mean, but when someone needs just a simple answer, in order to help the community (in case it wasn't explicit, which I think it was, I said I would do the translation to Portuguese), and there is no answer it seems to me to be a bit rude. Was I rude, or did I, in anyway offend anyone without knowing? If so would someone just please give me the courtesy of saying so?
Or isn't important to offer a Portuguese translation as a part of the platform when it is the seventh most spoken language in the world, which seems to me like an important market?

Again, I don't think I'm being rude, but would like an answer if at all possible.

Regards

Hello

After relasing the correct english translation you can edit the xml file with the languages you want

Hi Morg Jo,
of course you're welcome if you want to contribute and as stated by Claudio we didn't meant to be rude or show a lack of interest but the translation on other languages is something we will focus in the near future.

Anyway I'd invite you to open a new forum thread when you'll be ready to translate it. thanks.

Giovanni.

Thanks for both your replies. I've been away of the computer for these last days, so I didn't get to read Giovanni's reply until now.

I'm in the process of finishing V3.6.0.4 translation to Portuguese, probably it will be finished in a couple of days. What I am actually doing at the moment is fine-tuning the raw 1st translation I did before, and filling the few blanks that I have left behind.

I have found that sometimes, when using the language editing for debugging option, when I click on the entry link I want to modify, both language entries (Portuguese and English) are empty. It seems that either the language manager can´t read the database, or there is a bug that empties the entries.

That happened with enough frequency to delay quite a bit the process. It may also have something to do with the host I'm using to make my own tests, being a free host, but I don't have the same kind of problems with other CMS's I've tested on the same environment.

OK, so I apologize for hacking this forum thread, but the whole thing started with the SMARTY issue, and me being disappointed with the fact the you are dropping the CMS module in the next version, which is something I really need (I still have some hope you reconsider that decision... Smile ).

Giovanni, you recommended that I start a new forum thread when I'm ready. Did you mean on this section or some other?

Also, are you interested on this translation I'm doing for V3.6.0.4 (you would have to find a Portuguese flag Smile )?

Finally, is version 4 beta close enough to the final version for it to be worthwhile starting translating it as is, and just correct or add whatever may be different up to the final version?

Hello,
you could open it in the External modules section.

About your Portuguese translation, every contribute is welcome but of course we'll have to evaluate when we will be able to review it before we can put it into the official release. Anyway in the meantime you can put this available to users by posting it here on the forum.

As Claudio wrote, it is a bit early now for starting translating version 4 so you should wait for the final version of english translations.

thanks.

bye,
Giovanni.
