Object : Users in Group do not see course objects
When I create a group as a teacher then add users to the group (teacher is also a public admin) and then subscribe students to a course they do not see the course when they log in. Is there an issue with public admins creating groups within a course?

Hi Jeff:

Check the permissions given to the public admin.
I'm running 4.0.4 and all this works fine.

Best Regards,
Dennis Hall

Hi Jeff:

There is a setting, I don't go to often, and you may not remember it either.
Log in as system administrator.
Select Main > Public Adminiostrators Profile > Click the srew-driver icon associated with the public administrator in question.
In the Edit dialog, ensure Activate directly the enrollments made by this admin is checked.

I'm importing my groups through a propietary setup from a marketplace so my setup is not exactly like yours.

If this does not work, you may want to check if this is a known 4.0.4 bug and register it.
At a glance, I have not found this as a registered bug in 4.0.4.

Best Regards,
Dennis Hall

Dennis,

I checked that and indeed "Activate directly enrollments made by this admin" was checked. I'm totally stumped by this and it's the last thing I need to solve before making courses live:)  The other problem is I'm trying to turn off groups and just go without the groups feature for teachers but now I don't see where to disable it and put things back to normal.

Object : More info about this problem
When I'm logged in as a public administrator who is a teacher for a course I
1) Add a user from Manage/Users Management
2) I click on the course title then go to "Manage Students" beneath the Teacher menu in the sidebar
3) I create a group
4) I Click the "Assign Users" Icon and check the user

The problem is the user is not assigned to the course.

Subcriptions to a course are done through the admin area /Elearning/Elearning/Course. There is a 'Subcription' link next to each course. It is explained in the 4.x manual on page 54. You should give your public admin access to this.

I am not familiar with CourseGroups because I do not use them, but I don't believe that a Teacher can subcribe users to a course. I am pretty sure that the CourseGroups are used for organizing currently subscribed users within the course.

Hi Joseph:

This is a user who is assigned to a course as a teacher, but had teh role/permissions of a public administrator (the higher rights of the two).

Hi Jeff:

I did try what you were trying to do, and it did not work for me either.
I'm not sure if this is by design, because, as Joseph indicates, this area may actually be only for organizational purposes.

If this area is not for assigning users to a course, it needs to be named appropriately and documented properly.

My understanding, based on the descriptions and functionalities "that seem available", is that the teacher (given the permissions as a public admin, should be able to add existing groups/users to a course through the front end. Even when I tried to manually add users from the front end, it did not work.

Jeff, I think your set up is correct.

I think it's broken.
My suggestion Jeff: open a thread in the Bugs forum group.

To delete your groups, just go to Main > Users > Groups management and delete the groups via teh X button to the far right. The users within will not be deleted from this action.

Best regards,
Dennis Hall

Thank you Dennis and Joseph!

Dennis I was able to delete the group from the teacher area under "Manage Students"

I'll open this in the bugs section HOWEVER, when I go to Manage Students under the Teacher area in the side bar all it lets me do is create a new group. It used to be that it was set so they couldn't create groups but could subscribe users the public admin created from the LMS area. I've looked and looked but can't see where to set this back.

Hi Jeff:

If your logged in as the super admin, you need to go into the admin panel to delete groups.
The sidebar menu you mention in the front end does not have this right.
