Why one Blog Called Docebo a ‘Trojan Horse’ (And Why We’re OK with it)

• 2 min read

It’s true: Docebo was recently labeled a “Trojan Horse” by the UK-based market analyst Learning Light. Despite the often negative connotation of the term (partly thanks to the malicious computer virus of the same name), Docebo is embracing the recognition. Here’s why:

David Patterson, director of Learning Light, recently posted “The Best LMS Solutions – An Equine Perspective” to provide a bird’s-eye view of the industry in terms many of us can understand: Horses.

The post names the most-used behemoth enterprise LMS, UK-based vendors poised to gain international exposure, systems with learner engagement-focused solutions and last (as well as least), the vendors who’ve gotten it wrong.

But somewhere in the middle, there are those systems “packed full of innovation and new ideas, such as integration-led solutions,” including Docebo, Patterson wrote.

There’s no mythological subterfuge or alternative motive here — Docebo was singled out for its unique ability to integrate into the corporate infrastructure, a capability that’s fast becoming a priority for companies looking to switch from their existing LMS solution.

The tale of the Trojan Horse offers an idea for how we can leverage the adoption of new learning technologies to facilitate new ideas in the eLearning space. (For example, the resurgence of the familiar 70:20:10 framework and its presence on the new Docebo and the changing face of learning.)“The Trojan Horses are gaining significant market exposure by being highly visible and full of potential,” Patterson continued. “We expect the odds to shorten on these.

Indeed, in our view the learning interface from an LMS such as Docebo when well integrated is a superior learning experience to many of the Race Horse solutions. Docebo is a fully loaded LMS with a commitment to integration and innovation. Perhaps its most interesting innovation is its flexible pricing model, but this should not overshadow the continuing commitment to technical and learning improvement.
