Learning Technologies 2016: Day 1 recap and what’s next

• 4 min read

What a whirlwind of an event! Docebo is having a great time at Learning Technologies 2016, and we’re so proud to hear all the great insight and feedback from the visitors who stopped by our stand on Day 1.

After the jump, a quick recap of what we saw around the Exhibition Hall yesterday, but first, we’d be remissed if we failed to mention that our very own Alessio Artuffo will be speaking on the topics of 70:20:10 and measuring the ROI of informal learning, at 2:00 in Theater 7. If you’re at the event, you won’t want to miss this talk!

Here are some highlights from yesterday’s show:

Putting the ‘L’ in L&D

We attended a ton of great seminars with points of view across the entire L&D spectrum.

As always, Charles Jennings delivered an inspiring commentary on the state of 70:20:10. We think there’s one quote that sums up his points quite nicely:

“702010 encourages performance architects, not Bob the Builder.” – Charles Jennings

We recently co-sponsored a report with Towards Maturity and Charles Jennings that shines a terrific light on the evidence behind the numbers:

47% of L&D professionals believe that their approach is shaped by models like that support learning in the flow of work

Additionally, independent analysis showed that compared with peers not using models, they are:

  • 4x more likely to report they respond faster to business change
  • 3x more likely to report improvement in staff motivation

Ady Howes from DPG discussed learner engagement with micro-learning and the importance of storytelling in digital learning.

“Digital learning is at its best when it engages the senses to connect with emotion.” – Ady Howes (@adyhowes), DPG

We couldn’t agree more! In fact, Docebo is flexible enough to allow learners to connect with each other in unique ways. We may be in the cloud, but we know learning doesn’t stop online, and in fact, the evidence shows us that people learn better from each other in an informal setting, compared to more structured and traditional means. While we wholly believe in the power of the classroom, Docebo places learning at the point of need.

We also heard an interesting case study from Kallidus and the NHS Business Services Authority. It was inspiring to hear the story of how an enormous organization like the NHS worked closely with its LMS to address the digital learning and compliance challenges involved with managing the largest pension scheme in Europe. In year one alone, the partnership has accomplished a 95% compliance through managing skills gaps in real-time, while achieving impressive cost savings, which resulted in improved patient services. That’s a pretty great story of LMS for a good cause.

It’s exciting to hear case studies such as these and fantasize about how Docebo might have handled the implementation. Since Docebo scales so well with each client’s individual needs, there’s no project too big (or too small, for that matter!) for our team.

We also learned how Transport for London is delivering a three-year immersive blended learning project to reskill 5,000 employees and transform customer service across the London Underground. Great stuff all around!

The Docebo clash of cultures

Don’t worry, it’s a good thing! Our partners in the UK, GuyKat Solutions, have teamed up with us for the event to spread the Docebo gospel. You’ll find them today at Booth N12 giving our visitors a first-hand look at how Docebo does social and informal learning. We’re happy to have them aboard, and have enjoyed spending time with them, as well as our Docebo teammates from across the globe, during our stay in London.

We’re happy to be part of Learning Technologies and are keeping up our energy for Day 2. Be sure to follow us on Twitter as we broadcast snippets from the show — we’ll also be broadcasting our talk at 2 p.m. local time – don’t miss it!
