The changing face of Learning: conclusions

• 2 min read

Changing Face of LearningWe were very happy to host a Blog post series recently on “The Changing Face of Learning”, by Cindy Pascale, CEO of Vado Inc – Docebo’s content partner. The aim of this series was to give readers a view on how to get the best from their training courses, and specifically about leveraging off the shelf courses. In this post I aim to share the main concepts of the series.

The Changing Face of Learning

  • Do & perform:
“94% of learning professionals seek to speed up the application of learning back into the workplace and only 23% feel that they achieve this”. Let’s not forget that the final aim of training is to learn new skills. Unfortunately it’s not so easy to turn content and training hours into actual skills that your employee can  apply in real work situations. That’s why, in order to achieve a successful training program, it’s important to add a sufficient number of practical applications to your learning plan, both to verify employee retention and to let them learn by doing.
  • Short & Memorable:
Telephone numbers are usually split into smaller groups of digits. Do you know why? Because we are humans, and humans are proven to remember better by retaining smaller pieces or “chunks” or “bits” of information. Basically our brains can only retain a limited amount of information so dividing your content into smaller digestible pieces will help learners. This technique is now commonly called “Chunked Learning” and 90% of content providers in 2014 affirmed that they’re going to extensively use this technique for their courses.
  • Watch & Learn:
According to Yankee Group’s Anywhere Enterprise 2010 US Unified Communications FastView Survey participants: learn 200% more with video; absorb information 40% faster than with voice communications; retain 38% more information than with audio – video increases the power of persuasion by 43% over audio or written communications and it increases the impact of communication by 67%. When you look at these numbers it’s obvious that video can really improve your training program success rate!

We really hope you enjoyed this blog series and we invite you to give us your feedback, and share your personal recommendations and experiences on how to get the most from training and/or off the shelf courses..

If you would like to test out Cindy’s suggestions IRL you can try out a 14-day free trial of the Docebo LMS and create your own learning environment to enable learners to get the most from their training!
