Introduction

In your platform, you can actively contribute to the learning experience of your company by uploading your content to channels and sharing it with your peers. You can add a screencast, so that other learners in the platform can view your demos, tutorials, or other screen recording material in channels.

This functionality is supported in Internet Explorer 11, Chrome, Safari, Firefox. The screen recording app (Screencast-O-Matic) is offered in English, Portuguese, German, Spanish, French, and Italian. This language is set according to your operating system’s language, not your platform’s language.

Contributing Screen Recordings

Access your main menu from the icon in the top left corner of your platform, then select the Contribute item. On the Contribute page, press the Start Recording button. This button is visible only if the Screen Recording App plugin is active in the platform. If it’s your first time contributing a screen recording from your device, your platform will automatically recognize that you do not have the screen recording app activated on your computer.

Press the Download button. The plugin will automatically begin downloading on your browser. Run the downloaded file to setup the recorder. Once completed, you will not need to refresh the page or login to the platform again. Simply press the Start Recording button again to start your recording.

The screen recording app will appear in a pop up, so make sure that your browser doesn’t block pop ups from your platform. To learn how to manage the screen recording app, refer to this documentation or these tutorials from Screencast-O-Matic.

Once complete, add a title and description to the recording and press Upload. The upload will then appear in the To Finalize tab on the bottom half of your platform’s Contribute page. Please note that the time it takes for the recording to be converted into a playable file in your platform depends on the size of the recording.

When the upload is complete, the Finalize Publishing pop up box will open. Here, you can add or edit the details relating to your recording, such as its title, description, and thumbnail. You can also add tags to improve your asset’s search, associate skills with it and choose the visibility type for the asset. Finally, select the channels in which you want to add your screencast learning asset. Once finished adding all the details, select Publish Now. Remember that you can also access the Finalize Publishing pop up box by clicking the Finalize Publishing link in each asset row in the To Finalize tab.

Adding a Screen Recording as an Assignment

You can also add screen recordings as assignment learning objects in your courses. Once you’re viewing the learning object in the course player, press the Start Recording button. This button is visible only if the Screen Recording App plugin is active in the platform. If it’s your first time adding a screen recording from your device, your platform will automatically recognize that you do not have the screen recording app activated on your computer.

Press the Download button. The plugin will automatically begin downloading on your browser. Run the downloaded file to setup the recorder. Once completed, you will not need to refresh the page or login to the platform again. Simply press the Start Recording button again to start your recording.
