How Best-in-Class Organizations are Driving Results with eLearning Content

• 3 min read

65% of top companies utilize eLearning content for content-based training to help fill skill gaps

Corporate learning has seen significant change over the course of the past year. How are best-in-class companies adjusting to technological changes and what trends will impact you in the foreseeable future?

Our summary of insights and the infographic below will help you to better understand how best-in-class companies are driving results with eLearning content and help you to prepare for oncoming changes in eLearning.

How are top companies mitigating learning challenges?

According to Aberdeen Group, the best-in-class companies are 72% more likely to use a learning management system (LMS) to provide access to training and resources. With the aid of an LMS, companies have a streamlined, centralized way to store and deploy content. However, 51% of those best-in-class companies marked the ability to assess skill gaps and irrelevant content as some of the most significant challenges with an LMS.

To address these challenges, Aberdeen Group found that 65% of top companies utilize content-based training to help fill skill gaps. Although more organizations tend to opt for in person and pre-recorded instructional training, content-based training has proven results to increase revenue per full-time employee (FTE). According to the study, best-in-class organizations that supplement content development with a subject matter expert (SME) were 13% more likely to see revenue per FTE increase by more than 10% over the course of 12 months. Simultaneously, these companies were 73% more likely to “see a greater alignment of performance improvements with greater achievement of management goals” over the course of 12 months.

Content learning strategies

As content-based training continues to evolve, organizations must overcome numerous internal challenges to truly capitalize on content. IDC recently surveyed leading organizations to examine training strategies, including whether or not organizations sought executive feedback for learning, linked training to business strategy, and regularly asked for student feedback. Leading companies that adopted these practices saw significant gains in their training programs, including 50% greater utilization of eLearning content, 38% greater gain in productivity, and a 30% gain in employee retention. While content-based training has been shown to improve productivity, the adoption of effective learning strategies is of equal importance.

More courses matter

As organizations integrate content-based training and learning strategies into their programs, another important factor arises that centers on the number of available courses. Not only do leading organizations see favorable results from well organized, SME-provided content, they also find that more courses matter.

According to the IDC study, both enterprises and targeted learners saw an increase in participation rates as the number of available eLearning courses increased. More impressively, best-in-class companies saw an 89% greater reduction in costs when more relevant courses were available to employees.

As LMS systems become more sophisticated every year, top performing companies also realize that training content is equally critical.
