ATHENS, Ga. (October 21, 2015) — Docebo, a provider of cloud-based learning solutions for today’s users, released a report today that shows organizations want a learning solution that captures learning that may already be taking place informally — on the job, through coaching and mentoring, and through social connections and knowledge sharing.
The new study by the Aberdeen Group revealed that business leaders/HR executives are dissatisfied with traditional and formal learning solutions and that they would prefer an option to include learning technology that focuses on the informal settings.
The research is included in a joint whitepaper with Docebo, entitled “The new 70:20:10 – the changing face of learning.”
“In the last five years, the learning functions of many organizations have undergone a transformation,” said Claudio Erba, Docebo’s CEO. “Wearable devices, gamification techniques and socially-enabled technologies are being used to help employees find and connect with internal experts – enabling many organizations to think about learning through a more connected and participative process.

The whitepaper reveals what high performing organizations are looking for in learning technology. The research by Aberdeen shows:
- 24 percent of organizations are appealing to diverse learning styles by planning to adopt new learning delivery modalities – such as online and/or mobile
- Organizations plan to increase learning spend by 87 percent over the next two years
- “Best-in-class” organizations are 78 percent more likely than others to utilize user-generated content for learning
- “Best-in-class” organizations are five times more likely than others to utilize a social LMS
The second section of this paper takes a close look at how organizations can implement a technology solution that addresses the 70:20:10 learning model. In particular, it explores how providing a comprehensive ‘ecosystem’ around the LMS enables organizations to facilitate informal, experiential learning (the 70 percent of the 70:20:10 learning model), facilitate coaching, mentoring and social learning (the 20 percent) and organize, distribute and track formal, structured courses (the 10 percent, that is, the LMS).
The paper also offers four ways to ensure the success of informal and social learning initiatives. In particular it discusses the issues of how to know if social and informal learning programs are gaining traction within the organization, identifying who is contributing most to creating new learning assets and whether the organization’s top experts are being engaged.
