Successfully transitioning to digital training with Docebo

ATR (Avions de Transport Régional) is a Franco-Italian aircraft manufacturer, an Economic Interest Grouping (EIG) formed by Airbus and Leonardo, and the world leader in regional turboprop aircraft. Headquartered in Toulouse and with a presence on every continent, the company designs and assembles the ATR 42 and 72, renowned for their energy efficiency and key role in regional connectivity. Its training centers, located in Toulouse, Miami, and Singapore, train over 3,500 pilots, crew members, and technicians each year using latest-generation simulators and innovative educational tools. Stéphane Garrigues, Training Tools Project Manager, explains how ATR transformed its pedagogical approach through e-learning.

The Challenge

Transforming a 100% In-Person Model into an Innovative Digital Offering

In the field of aviation training, in-person instruction has always been the dominant standard, largely due to regulatory constraints and the high-quality standards expected. It was within this context that ATR had for several years been planning to develop a genuine e-learning offering, capable of complementing and strengthening its position in a strategic market. Until 2020, all training was delivered in person, either at ATR centers or directly at client sites. The Covid crisis acted as an accelerator, as Stéphane Garrigues points out.

But the challenge was not merely a technical digitalization. It was a complete pedagogical transformation: adapting content designed for in-person delivery to a blended learning model. This involved reducing classroom time, making certain modules available for self-study, and, most importantly, rethinking the structure of courses for e-learning. Rather than a simple online transposition, ATR undertook an ambitious pedagogical re-engineering, ensuring the high standards specific to the aviation sector were maintained, as well as the superior level of quality that characterizes them, reflecting their commitment to their learners and clients.

Added to this was a complex organizational structure. The Human Resources department joined the project with a specific need: to be able to autonomously deliver training to all employees. The company therefore had to manage two very different uses on the same platform: an internal use for staff and an external use for operator clients. The technical challenges were also significant, including the integration of a Single Sign-On (SSO) and the implementation of a complete process, from course creation to learner tracking.

“We absolutely had to be able to deliver our content online. Guaranteeing our clients simple, fast, and tailored access to their needs had become essential.”

The Solution

ATR e-Training Hub, Powered by Docebo

To meet these challenges, ATR conducted a tender process involving several players, from major market names to open-source solutions. One criterion emerged as decisive: simplicity.

“Our priority was the user experience: providing the simplest possible access to our educational content. We needed a solution that met this need for simplicity. This is where DOCEBO stood out.” — Stéphane Garrigues, Training Tools Project Manager, ATR

The choice was confirmed after a short testing phase. The platform could be deployed in just sixteen weeks thanks to the “Docebo Learn Onboarding Services – Gold” program. The workshops organized during this phase helped to clarify roles, adapt content, and anticipate the specific needs of each department. This collaboration allowed ATR to quickly obtain a functional platform and to train its administrators for autonomous use. The technical integration was carried out in direct collaboration with the IT department, and the content was progressively transformed into a blended learning format.

“From the deployment phase to the present day, we have maintained a privileged relationship, ensuring regular and tailored support.” — Stéphane Garrigues, Training Tools Project Manager, ATR

The Results

A Successful Launch and a Growth Dynamic

Since its launch in late 2022, the ATR e-Training Hub platform has quickly established itself as an essential tool. It not only meets the initial objectives of simplicity and efficiency but now exceeds expectations. Today, its success is measured by the widespread adoption among employees and the growing interest from external operators, confirming the relevance of an approach that combines pedagogical rigor with digital innovation.

The figures demonstrate a successful adoption on both fronts:
-Over 19,000 enrollments for HR training intended for ATR employees and Training Center courses for external operators.
-Up to 534 active users on the platform per month.

Thus, internal adoption is a complete success, and the ability to reach learners all over the world opens up new business prospects. Even with a deliberately simplified use in this initial phase, the ATR e-Training Hub platform already provides a solid foundation for enriching the catalog and diversifying future formats.

Stéphane also highlights the value of the collaboration with Docebo beyond the technical implementation. For him, the fluid communication, personalized follow-up, and responsiveness of the support team are decisive factors: “Communication is a key element, and that is precisely what I appreciated in our collaboration with Docebo. Their support is responsive and present on a daily basis. This proximity has greatly contributed to our satisfaction to this day.”

For ATR, Docebo does not just provide a tool, but actively supports the platform’s evolution by regularly integrating new features and keeping its clients informed of ongoing developments.

“Communication is a key element, and that’s precisely what I appreciated most in our collaboration with Docebo. Their support team is responsive and present on a daily basis. This close relationship has greatly contributed to our satisfaction to this day. Without a doubt, Docebo can support any company looking to undertake its digital transformation in the field of training.”
