Becoming a skills-based organization

There’s a lot of chatter lately about “going skills-based.” But in our joint webinar with 365Talents, Only 23% of attendees said they have a solid, connected approach to learning and skills. Most are investing but few are integrated.

Moving from a “job-based” to a skills-based organization is a big shift. We’ll give you the tl;dr here, but for the full picture, pick up our Skills + Learning Playbook for Workforce Readiness.

The $18,000,000,000,000 problem

Workforce readiness gaps cost the global economy up to $18 trillion in unrealized GDP every year.

Despite massive investments in training, most organizations still find skill gaps to be their #1 barrier to transformation. Why? Because most learning programs focus on inputs (course completions) rather than outcomes (business readiness).

Loïc Michel called this out in the webinar: 77% of organizations are investing in skills, but most systems are still disconnected.

Skills, not jobs, are the new corporate currency

The half-life of tech skills is now as low as 2.5 years. This means you can no longer think of jobs as static collections of responsibilities. Skills evolve fast and the way you track them has to as well.

A perfect example is prompt engineering. Back in 2023, it was the “job of the future.” By 2025, it became a baseline skill required across every role. Treating prompt engineering as a role means you hired a few people whose training may now be obsolete. But treating it as a skill helped build capability enterprise-wide.

Finding a way forward

The merger of Docebo and 365Talents aims to close the loop between learning and performance. A unified skills profile captures capability across your entire ecosystem of employees, customers, and partners. How it works in practice:

Validate: As skills are applied, proficiency is validated, and career pathways adapt automatically.
Identify: AI infers skills from work activity and performance data, not just self-reported surveys.
Personalize: When a gap appears, AI serves hyperpersonalized learning immediately.

It’s only through a unified system that the flywheel of skills, learning, and evaluations can finally start spinning.
